And a new chapter begins! I was going to wait a week to start, but I decided I’d rather not keep you waiting, especially since this one starts out kinda slow. However, I’m going to try and do two pages next week, if I can make the time!
Shown here are the leaves of the Kentucky coffee tree, which–despite its name–is native to Colorado as well. What this means for you the reader is that apparently this story takes place in Colorado. I don’t know if anyone was wondering, but you may now put that burning question to rest!
Also a spoiler alert: this chapter is going to include some rather NSFW bits, but I’ll warn you once we get closer!
For any biology nerds out there (beside me), the Kentucky coffeetree is dioecious, and the genus name “Gymnocladus” means “naked branch”. It somehow gives me giggles, knowing that we’re one step short of seeing the “naked branches” of two male individuals in he last chapter’s finale. 😉
Also according to Wikipedia, “This tree usually occurs as widely dispersed individuals or small colonial groups with interconnected root systems.” I don’t know if the metaphor is intentional or not (probably not), but I like it. 😀
*stops reading way too much into things*
Oh, and Alast = Shihchuan. I always forget under what username I’m posting, but anyway…
Haha that’s awesome! I wish I could say I had known any of that when I chose this tree, but the truth is I just looked up trees in Colorado and picked one I thought looked cool. Maybe it was meant to be? And I don’t think there’s such a thing as reading to much into fiction. Everything a writer or artist does is for a reason, so there’s no harm in wondering what that reason might be!
For instance! There is exactly one page in this comic so far that has color. I don’t think anyone noticed it, but it was very intentional and there is a very specific reason!
If things are only now getting ‘hard’ for Sensei, then I feel kind of bad for him. Who knows what is to come.
Also, the “Ew” comment by the other teacher on the previous page: Rude.
(PS: Hidetake Takayama – Puke)
Ohhh damn I’m feelin that song. Never heard of him before, but that is perfect writing music.
And don’t worry, “Hard” could refer to any number of things! Right?
